After 3 months of eating 2 bananas per day, here are the improvements I noticed with my health:
- I looked thinner – Potassium reduces fluid retention. Bananas also trigger belly bacteria that reduce bloating. Eating a banana twice a day before meals can reduce belly bloat by 50 percent, according to one study.
- I slept better – The tryptophan in bananas promotes relaxation before bed, similar to melatonin. Better sleep can lead to more energy during the day. It can even fight obesity, which probably also helped me look thinner.
- I felt less stress – Tryptophan is also a precursor for serotonin, which fights depression, fatigue, anxiety, irritability, and anger. The norepinephrine in bananas also fights stress. The lower your stress, the better your body can fight fat by keeping your hormones in check.
By swapping out crunchy, carb-filled snacks for bananas, I experienced those benefits above.
Were some the result of a placebo effect?
